WHAT TO VISIT
JARDIM DO LARGO CORONEL BATISTA COELHO
This garden has a great variety of plant species and statues of some individualities. It is a pleasant space for an outdoor walk, to play with the children or simply to talk to someone. It brings to Santo Tirso a dynamism and character of its own, translated into a space of a lovely landscape and of passage for many people everyday.
MOSTEIRO SÃO BENTO
The São Bento Monastery is located on the left bank of the River Ave in the downtown area of Santo Tirso. It was founded in 979 and has an unbelievable story. After secularization, the Monastery was divided into three: the church and the first cloister were given to the parish, the inns were transformed into public office and there is also an asylum. The Monastery has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.
CASTRO DE MONTE PADRÃO
Also known as Castro do Monte Córdova, it is constituted by vestiges of a fortified settlement that is located in the highest point of Monte Padrão. It's estimated that was founded in the 19th century BC and it was populated until the Middle Ages. No one is indifferent to its presence in the landscape. Also worthy of note is the Monte Padrão Interpretative Center, which opened in April 2008 and aims to support research work.
TERMAS DAS CALDAS DA SAÚDE
The 'Termas das Caldas da Saúde' offers a set of therapeutic treatments, mainly for respiratory and musculoskeletal diseases. In addiction, the spa has also decided to invest in physical activity and general well-being with is 'Clube da Saúde' (health club). More recently, a thermal spa has been opened for the purpose of relaxtion for face and body, associated with the benefits of thermal water.
PARQUE URBANO SARA MOREIRA
The Urban Park Sara Moreira is inserted in a forest of oaks and cork oaks near the River Ave. The project intends to revitalize the space through the creation of pedestrian routes and areas of leisure. The idea is to enhance the natural characteristics of this public green space inserted in the Urban Green Structure of the city of Santo Tirso. In the space is also inserted a sports area: a soccer field and a multi-sports field.
PASSEIO DAS MARGENS DO AVE
The 'Passeio das Margens do Ave' has as purpose to unite the city of Santo Tirso, through the creation of a pedestrian path to the river and through which one can glimpse the historical and natural patrimony and all the green spaces created. This project intends to be a continuous project with the purpose of creating pedestrian and cycling routes to create na alternative to motorized mobility adopted by a large part of the population.
MOSTEIRO DE SINGEVERGA
The 'Mosteiro de São Bento de Singeverga' is located in Roriz, Santo Tirso. It was founded on January 25, 1982 and was restored in the mid-twentieth century. This monastery stands out for its architecture, being only one-third od what the initial project intended to, so it was presented in the form of the letter 'P' and a segment was added to form an 'R' in 1992. It has a collection of butterflies unique in Europe and it has also a garden.
MUSEU INTERNACIONAL DE ESCULTURA CONTEMPORÂNEA
This museum was formally opened in 1997 and has as theme the contemporary art and public sculpture. It counts on the advice of the sculptor Alberto Carneiro and Gérard Xuriguera, national and international artistic commissioners, respectively. This museum intends to be a space of dialogue and confrontation of diverse artistic currents and intends to divulgue the contemporary art and to debate the paper of the public art.
